ACTIONS: Stimulating expectorant, bitter, diaphoretic, diuretic, vermifuge, stomachic
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES: All lung condotions, chronic cough, bronchitis (acute and chronic) laryngitis, sinusitis and head colds with congestion and discharge, TB, croup, Drains damp from lungs and chest to produce calm. Regulates bowels. Stimulates digestion.
COMBINATIONS: Excellent with Slippery Elm Bark, horehound, mullein, and wild cherry bark for cough formula.
GROWTH PATTERN: Likes sandy dry soil disturbed areas of the United States.
COUNTERINDICATIONS: It is an emmenagogue and uterine stimulant, it is to be avoided during pregnancy. Horehound is a cold herb so should not be used in deficient yang or excess cold conditions.
DOSAGE: Is a very bitter herbs so ios best combined in a syrup or sweetend generously with honey.As an infusion, 1 ounce herbs to one pint water. Steep 20-30 minutes. Cold is diuretic, warm is diaphoretic.
